Jane
Thornley
Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jane's passion for yarn began
at the age of 21 in a most unlikely way - knitting a trunk-warmer for
an elephant!
Jane supplemented her design education with a few extension courses
but taught herself the arts of beading, embroidery, sewing, painting
and drawing, techniques that have since embellished the surfaces of her
life and her work. Her early work consisted of multi-coloured sweaters
which contained as many as 50 different colours of yarn. Jane states, "For
me, colour and texture rule and most of the inspiration feeding my imagination
comes from the natural world. I see knitting as art, as viable as any
other, and no matter what the tool or preferred palette, in human hands,
magic happens."
Jane also fashions unique jewelry and writes fiction. Inevitably her
beads, collected from around the world, find their way into her fabulous,
multi-textured and hued yarn creations. You can share in Jane's creative
process through her blog,
resplendent with rich photography and beautiful prose. Jane also sells
intricately illustrated patterns for making some of her creations here.
Jane's current collection is available in the e-boutique.
